YET another housing scheme has been proposed for Elmstead Market.
Colchester-based Hills Residential is seeking planning permission to build 62 homes on land east of School Road at the southern edge of the village.
The 4.37ha site, currently arable farmland, is east of Charity Field, which is currently the subject of an appeal for 50 homes.
The outline application proposes a mixture of two, three and four-bedroomed homes with garaging, landscaping and a pond. An indicative plan suggests 20 two-bed homes, 25 three-bed homes and 17 four-bed homes.
Together they would make a “significant contribution” to Tendring Council’s housing stock “at a time of serious under-supply.”
“It is understood there are over 200 households currently registered as seeking affordable housing in Elmstead,” it said.
There would be “starter and affordable” homes, plus allotments, open space and the possibility of trust housing to ensure local people receive the first opportunity to live in them.
“The application site lays within an established urban area, local to many communal facilities to suit family lifestyle. The area benefits from good transport links, with frequent bus services, as well as direct access to the local pedestrian/ cycle networks via two footpaths.
“Overall the proposal will create a sympathetic development with an attractive approach via a new road. It is considered this scheme fulfils the sites potential and will provide an attractive and accessible place for new residents to live,” it concluded.
