The Environment Agency has warned flooding is possible along the coast and including areas by the River Colne and Blackwater Estuary. Water levels will be high along the coastlines of Mersea, Clacton, Holland, Jaywick, Harwich and Manningtree.
The warning on the Environment Agency website says: "We are expecting high tide levels on the Essex coast due to a combination of strong winds and a tidal surge.
"The forecast high water is due at Clacton at 4pm."
Motorists have reported several broken down cars near the Strood between Mersea and the mainland.
