A WOMAN has been left overwhelmed after reaching her target of £1,000 for charity in a sponsored head shave.

Charlotte Fisher, 42, of Kirby Road, Walton, braved having her head shaved at Charles Timbs hairdressers on Mill Lane, Walton, on Wednesday, January 4.

Mum-of-five Charlotte decided to shave her head in memory of her school friend Clare Archer who sadly died from ovarian cancer 15 years ago, aged just 26.

Recently, Clare’s stepsister Maria Biswell, who is also a friend of Charlotte’s, was diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Charlotte, who works at Voyage Care in Clacton, thought she would shave her hair also to support Maria, who had already lost hers while receiving treatment.

She said: “I had my sisters, friends, and three of my children come to the hairdressers to support me on the day.

“My hair was put into two ponytails and my two youngest children, Annie, 12, and Missie, eight, cut a ponytail off each. They jumped at the chance to do it actually.

“My friends, family and children are all very proud of me for shaving my head for a good cause.”
Charlotte has so far raised £1,000 which she will be donating to the Mary Barron ward at Colchester General Hospital, where her friend Maria has been receiving treatment for the past two months.

Emma Fells, Charlotte’s hairdresser on the day, has arranged for her hair to be made into a wig for a children’s leukaemia charity.

Charlotte said: “It is just hair at the end of the day and will always grow back – and it doesn’t even look as bad as I thought it would.

“It is nice to know that people have supported me and donated what they can to help.

“I definitely do not have any regrets and I am truly overwhelmed by the support and generous donations.”
