A GROUP which was formed in Jaywick Sands just over a year ago is going from strength to strength.

Jaywick Sands Happy Club meets monthly at St Christopher’s Church Hall and has staged a number of events over the past 12 months.

The club has also pressed for road safety improvements, such as in Meadow Way, and campaigned for facilities to be retained in the area.

It is staging its annual general meeting on March 2 to agree a constitution and elect officers for the coming year. The meeting will be held at St Christopher’s starting at 7pm.

Danny Sloggett who organises the club said that the aim is to become formally established so that that it can apply for funding to ensure its future and progress new ideas.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for Jaywick Sands, said that he has attended some of the meetings.

“The Jaywick Sands Happy Club has tackled a number of issues and staged events in its first year and has been proactive in the community,” he said.

“It is looking to have a representative on the Jaywick Sands Community Forum and becoming properly constituted will allow it to do so as well as seek funding going forward.”

Mr Honeywood said the council is keen to take into account the views of all residents in Jaywick Sands as it continues to press ahead with its partners in regenerating the area.
