A GROUP of Travellers have moved off from a country park in Clacton.

Seven caravans and eight other vehicles arrived at Brook Country Park just off the A133 on Wednesday night.

The site is owned and run by Tendring Council, which informed Essex Countywide Traveller Unit about the incursion.

The unit served the group with a Direction to Leave notice which gave them 24 hours to vacate the land.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring Council's cabinet member for housing, said this is the second occasion in a mater of days that travellers have left land without the necessity to go through the court process.

“This is obviously good news for everyone concerned and users of the country park will be relieved that the travellers have left,” he said.

“Council officers have been to visit the site and most of the rubbish has been cleared up by the group and left by bins to be collected.

“This will fortunately reduce the cost of any clean-up operation in this case.”

Brook Country Park, in Britton Way, is around 14 hectares and was opened in 2010.
