HUNDREDS of people turned out as a village fete marked more than a 100 years of running.

More than 950 people attended the Great Holland Church and Village on Saturday despite the typical rainy British weather.

But despite the downpour, it was a very successful day as the event raised more than £2,500 to be split between the church, village and a chosen charity.

Sue Jenkins, chairperson of the event said that the traditional fete has been running for more than 100 years dating back to 1904.

She said: “Everyone stuck it out in the rain, they were drinking cups of tea and eating cream cakes under umbrellas.

“A lot of people did stay and it’s so nice that they are able to support the fete over the years. In true British style we carried on whatever the weather, which is better than nothing.”
