MORE than 100 people marked the 72nd anniversary of VJ Day in Clacton on Tuesday.

Veterans turned out in force at the town's Memorial Gardens for a service staged by the Royal British Legion.

The service celebrated the end of the war in the Pacific and victory over Japan.

A number of groups and organisations were represented with six standards at the parade which was led by parade marshal Jamie Robertson.

Ellie Bould, 15, of Tendring Brass and Harwich and Dovercourt High School played the Last Post.

The service was conducted by the Rev David Lower with an exhortation by Clacton Royal British Legion president Dan Casey.

Tendring Council chairman Mark Platt said: “It was another excellent turnout for this special occasion which means so much to so many.

“It was an honour and pleasure to be there to represent the council and the residents of the whole district.”
