A POP-UP poppy shop manned by volunteers is up and running in Walton to raise cash to help veterans.

The shop, based at the former Mark James and Sons newsagents in High Street, was set up by the Walton branch of the Royal British Legion to boost funds for its annual poppy appeal.

Money raised goes toward helping veterans and military families and teaching youngsters about the meaning behind the remembrance tradition.

People can pick up poppies or wreaths at the store, which is open 10am to 4pm every day.

Organiser John Halls said the shop is always very well supported and he praise volunteers for giving up their time.

Clacton’s branch of the Legion is calling for help to raise cash for the appeal.

Branch president Dan Casey said: “Help is wanted all over Clacton to raise money.

“The money raised supports all our servicemen, ladies and veterans and families of those who paid the ultimate price.

“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who gives money each year.”
