A PAIR of pre-schools are celebrating after being recognised for their work with autistic children.
Grove Pre-School, in Villa Road, Stanway and Bluebell Pre-School, based in West Bergholt, have received the Good Beginnings award from Essex County Council.
The pre-schools had to meet a number of requirements set by County Hall education chiefs, including extensive training on autism, to help them better understand children with the condition.
It means little ones with social communication difficulties or autism who live near to the pre-schools will be encouraged to attend them to make sure they are in the best environment.
Zoe Brierley, who is Grove Pre-school’s special education needs co-ordinator, said: “We are pleased, it is an award for the team that we put lots of time and effort into achieving.”
Jackie Leach, principal at Bluebell Pre-school, added: “The award shows Bluebell Pre-school is an effective setting in ensuring every child's needs are met by planning, observing and reflection and all staff have a good understanding of autism and the challenges autistic children face every day. This wasagreat team effort and we are proud of this achievement that reenforces our inclusive and outstanding practice.”
