HIGHWOODS’ cyclists will benefit from leaf-free paths after a spring clean by the Essex Community Payback Scheme.

The activity was organised by Highwoods council candidates – James Child, Chris Hayter and Steph Hayward – who make up the Conservative Highwoods Action Team (CHAT).

Complaints from residents over the state of walkways in the area lead to clearing a cycle path off Highwoods Square, leading to Eastwood Drive. It is part of an ongoing series of clean-ups.

Julie Sancessario, an unpaid work supervisor, said: “A group of between eight to 16 people who have been given a community order to complete will go out every day to jobs like this which we’ve sourced and generally it’s anything that anyone can turn their hand to.

“These activities form part of their rehabilitation so they’re less likely to reoffend.

"They also learn new skills."
