SOLDIERS kicked and punched their way to completing more than two days of non-stop martial arts into 24 hours to raise money for the charity Combat Stress.

A total of 15 servicemen from Colchester’s Merville Barracks took part in the marathon session of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

They did 681 five minute bouts in the 24 hours equivalent to two-and-a-third days of non-stop BJJ.

Sgt Mick Hill, of 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, said: “It’s been tough rolling around the clock, but there’s a great team spirit that helped us keep going through the small hours of the night. Doing our bit to support a charity helping serving and ex-soldiers suffering because of their experiences on operations has also been a great motivator.”

Similar events took place in Catterick, Aldershot, London and Cyprus with more than £1,800 being raised.
