A GYM in Colchester is set to get a revamp and an extension as part of £1.5million works by the council.

Leisure World’s Activa Gym will be extended and will get a new studio and refurbished spinning room by summer.

The new gym space, which will be 240sqm larger, will include a group training zone, a functional movement zone, dedicated lifting zones and a light free weight zone.

The current Activa Gym area will be remodelled to include a larger free weights area with new flooring, dumbbells and benches, new resistance and cardiovascular equipment and a new reception area.

A new studio space will be created on the first floor for aerobic classes including yoga and pilates.

The Spinning Room will be refurbished and have 31 new state-of-the-art bikes installed, alongside a new audio and lighting system.

The work is due to start next Monday (April 3) and is expected to be completed in the summer.

Councillor Annie Feltham, Colchester Council portfolio holder for Business, Leisure and Opportunities, said: "We’re very proud of Leisure World and are keen to ensure that our centre provides residents and visitors with the best experience and facilities as possible.

"This investment will make a huge difference to our members, especially those using the gym. There will be much more room and new equipment meaning many more people can be accommodated at peak times."
