THE Headgate Theatre in Colchester is looking for a theatre administrator.

Run by a team of passionate volunteers, it’s the first time the home of community theatre in the town has advertised a paid post with the eventual successful applicant looking after many of the aspects of the general running of the venue.

Required to work 80 hours over a four-week period, in keeping with the flexible nature of how the theatre works, among the many responsibilities included in the new role will be looking after the box office staff; marketing and press; overseeing visiting productions and making sure the day to day running of the theatre runs smoothly.

The Headgate Theatre was realised in 1999 thanks to the Theatre Arts Action Trust, which took on a 25-year lease of the former Congregational Chapel and then raised the £240,000 needed to convert it into a purpose built theatre, which was opened the year after.

With plans to move into the building which once housed the Warehouse restaurant next door, trustee and one of the founders of the theatre, David King, says the post is a great opportunity for someone who not only loves theatre but wants to make their mark on the local scene.

He said: “Even if we weren’t planning a proposed expansion, the success of the theatre in recent years has meant we have needed someone like this for a while.

“It’s an exciting opportunity in a very exciting time for us here at the Headgate.”

The closing date is noon on Wednesday, February 28.

For anyone interested in the post, applications should be addressed to recruitment@headgatetheatre.co.uk.
