RESIDENTS have described a dip in their road as a ticking time bomb, worried it will collapse any day.

Those living in Harsnett Road, Colchester, said over the past few weeks part of the road has started to dip.

There is now scratch marks on the road, where the bottoms of cars are catching on the edge of the dip.

The issue was reported to Essex County Council by concerned residents.

The team at Essex Highways has said further investigation is needed.

On their interactive map marking the trouble spot, they said: “We have carried out an initial assessment of this issue which has highlighted that we require further information to determine what action, if any, action may be taken.”

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

Drainage problems have been reported next to where the dip in the road is, but Essex Highways said following investigation the drainage did not require repairs at this time.

Residents said they were getting worried it might be the start of a sinkhole.

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: "This slight depression in the road may or may not be a symptom of an underlying issue and we will continue to monitor the road prepared to take action if it does show any signs of further deterioration.

"We are grateful to the councillor for his report online and very much encourage anyone to report any problem they see on the roads or pavements online at www.essex.gov.uk/highways. If you follow through on the website, there are some issues which need to be reported and dealt with urgently and the website gives you the phone number to call in those cases.”
