A MAN has been left with "significant injuries" after being stabbed during a suspected targeted attack in Clacton.

Police are hunting for a knifeman following the incident, which happened in Wellesley Road on Tuesday evening.

The victim, who was left with stab wounds, received "significant injuries" that will require further treatment.

He has since been released from hospital, but is being kept safe by police.

Officers were called to the scene at 9.15pm, following which they arrested a 24-year-old man, from Clacton, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Det Insp Gary Biddle, of Clacton CID, said: “This attack happened in the street and we believe it was targeted.

“One man remains in custody and one suspect remains outstanding.

"This individual has been described as white, and he was wearing a grey tracksuit.

“The victim has been safeguarded and our enquiries are ongoing.

"Please contact Clacton CID if you have information which could lead to the whereabouts of the outstanding suspect."

Ward councillor Paul Honeywood said he was concerned about the incident.

"It is concerning to hear about two knife incidents in the space of a week," he said.

"Last week a man was threatened with a knife during a robbery in his own home in Jaywick and now we have a stabbing in Clacton.

"Although this latest incident is believed to be targeted, it will still concern residents to see this sort of thing happening in the evening in the town centre.

"We haven't seen many incidents like this in recent months, so it would be sad to see an increase in knife crime.

"I'm pleased that the man has been released from hospital and hope that he makes a quick recovery."
