A HIGH street “looked like Beirut” after a nightclub had every window of its frontage broken.

The manager of Scenarios nightclub and bar, in Halstead’s Trinity Street, was rung by police at 1am after 16 panes of glass were damaged in the early hours. Nearby takeaway USA Chicken also had two windows targeted.

No-one was hurt and the nightclub was locked when the attack happened on Tuesday night.

Insp Mick Pitcher said: “The High Street looks like Beirut at the minute.

“Two officers were called and someone was arrested.

“We drove through Halstead and you think, ‘God, it’s a war zone’ – but it isn’t.”

Thousands of pounds of damage was caused after every ground-floor window of Scenarios was damaged just before midnight on Tuesday.

Scenarios manager Lynne Maybank said repairs would cost a huge sum of money, and the venue would be forced to close temporarily while the 16 panes of glass and two damaged front doors were replaced.

The door of a flat in Trinity Court was also damaged, police said.

Mrs Maybank, 50, said: “It’s not what you expect to hear at 1am when you’ve locked up.

“We don’t know how much money we might lose. We will just have to take it a day at a time.

“It will probably cost about £8,000 to £10,000 to repair.”

During the day, Scenarios opens as a cafe, Brambles, which will also be affected.

Roger Grimwade, Essex police spokesman, said: “A 47-year-old local woman was arrested just before midnight after a number of shop windows were broken at Scenarios and USA Fried Chicken, in Trinity Street, Halstead.”

The woman was charged with three counts of criminal damage and is due to appear in court today.
