HUNDREDS of homes will be built in Harwich and Dovercourt over the next ten years.
Tendring Council has unveiled its Local Plan this week showing the sites for housing development in the town.
The plan sets planning precedent for the next ten years.
A total of 240 new homes have been earmarked for allocated areas in Main Road, Dovercourt, land east of Pond Hall Farm, land south of Ramsey Road and west of Mayes Lane, Ramsey for development.
Councillor Martyn Donn said: “Ramsey needs some more development. “Houses are changing hands on a monthly basis and people are moving out and looking for bigger properties but they are moving further afield.”
The Harwich, Dovercourt and Ramsey conservation areas have also been earmarked for protection while regeneration in Harwich Old Town has been marked as a priority.
Mr Donn added: “We need to our open spaces because otherwise we would a lot of our natural wildlife.
“If we take a link out of the chain and the chain could break completely.”
