Clear ditches to stop floods, highways tells residents

RESIDENTS are being reminded to keep their ditches clear to prevent roads from flooding.

Neighbours felt forced to take matters into their own hands when Rectory Road in Little Oakley road flooded nearly a week last month.

They cleared ditches and replaced a section of pipe to allow the foot of water to drain away.

Essex County Council told the village’s parish council it would write to ditch owners to tell them their responsibilities to keep their ditches in good order.

Little Oakley Parish Council said it would monitor the ditches in the area and take further action if necessary.
