ESSEX'S new top cop has been formally appointed.
Stephen Kavanagh has been approved as Chief Constable of Essex Police by members of the police and crime panel this afternoon.
Mr Kavanagh was deputy assistant commissioner for specialist operations at the Metropolitan Police, having joined the force as a constable in 1985.
