Brantham will be the top goal for top runners

TOP runners will make their way to Brantham in a new ultra marathon.

The Stour Valley Path, which runs from Newmarket to Cattawade, will be the setting for the 100km, 62mile, race on September 14 this year.

Runners will travel the length of the footpath in a maximum time limit of 13 and a half hours.

Matthew Hearne, who has organised the ultra marathon wth friend Nic Clarke, said: "I already have a couple of the top ultra marathon runners from the UK signed up to the race, and I hope to attract somewhere in the region of 100 to 200 runners in total.

"I am hoping to raise people's awareness of the beauty of the Stour Valley Path, both locally but also nationally and internationally, particularly given the links to John Constable, who painted a number of famous scenes along the route itself."
