Pressure for PCSO replacement

VILLAGE bosses are pressing police to bring more community protection to the area.

Mistley Parish Council chairman Martin Rayner said he was concerned that the council was paying for police community support officers (PCSO) that were not serving the area.

Mistley, Manningtree and Lawford councils pay half the wages of two PCSOs to survey the area along with another PCSO fully-funded by police.

One of the officers has now left the post but Mr Rayner said there were worries she would not be replaced because budget cuts have blocked PCSO recruitment.

Mistley, Manningtree and Lawford council chairmen decided to write to Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Alston to stress the need for a replacement.

Tendring Rural Inspector Chris Willis said the force was working to replace her.
