Hunt is on for worst roads
A CAMPAIGNING politician is on the hunt for the worst roads in north Essex.
Harwich and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin has lobbied highways chiefs for improvements to the road junction on the A120 at Pellens Corner, which has been the scene of fatal and serious road crashes.
But now he wants the public to tell him which are the worst country roads in the area - so he can urge Essex County Council to take action.
Mr Jenkin said: “I want to find out which are the worst stretches of road in Colchester and Tendring.
“I am talking in terms of road quality and surface and those which are in need of maintenance.
“Essex County Council is looking at its plan for next year and I want to be able to tell officers which stretches of road need attention.
“The main roads of the A12 and the A120 are part of the national road network but we are really talking about the smaller roads.
“I am pleased the county council is trying to find out information on which roads need attention.
“We know potholes cause damage to cars and this can be expensive to repair.
“The county council doesn’t want to have to pay compensation - it would rather repair the road.”
Anyone with information is asked to email Mr Jenkin on firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on Monday.
