New Road bridge has low crash risk, say rail bosses
12:00pm Saturday 7th September 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
FEARS a lorry could plunge onto a railway line have been dismissed by rail bosses.
Councillors claim the bridge on New Road has no protection on the downhill stretch of the road.
Mistley Parish Council wrote to Network Rail to raise the concerns after line improvement works were carried out.
Trees used to line the embankment near the former Wagon Pub but were removed by Network Rail as part of the improvements to the railway embankment.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “In accordance with the guidance provided by the Department for Transport, this site is considered by Network Rail to be of a lower risk to road vehicle incursion."
