Care given to stroke patients improving

IMPROVEMENTS have been made to the care given to north Essex stroke patients, according to health bosses.
The North Essex Clinical Commissioning Group said it has worked jointly with GPs, community services at Anglian Community Enterprise and Colchester Hospital Trust to achieve this.
Since 2008, diagnosis has improved, with 16 per cent more Atrial Fibrillation - heart rhythm issues that can lead to stroke - cases spotted.
There has been a 71 per cent improvement in high risk TIAs (minor strokes) treated within 24 hours.
More than half of all stroke patients now benefit from the Early Supported Discharge service, which focuses on getting people who have had a mild to moderate stroke out of hospital as quickly as possible and back into their own home for intensive rehabilitation.
