Residents win battle over reservoir
7:30am Monday 23rd September 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
A VILLAGE is celebrating after staving off attempts to build a huge reservoir in their back yards for a second time.
Essex County Council has turned down an appeal for land next to Manning Grove, near Great Bromley after initials plans were rejected over a year ago.
T W Salmon and Co, T and R Fairley Farms and Tabor Farms had applied to create a reservoir that could hold 36 million gallons of water – the equivalent of 55 Olympic swimming pools – and would have needed to remove 300,000 tonnes of sand and gravel.
The council rejected the appeal on the grounds that there would be an adverse effect on the environmental qualities of the site, the character and appearance of the surrounding area, the living conditions of local residents and highway safety.
