Fury after extra cash to fix road refused
7:30am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
A ROAD which is finally set to get a new surface after forty years has been hit by a setback after funding was turned down.
The surface of Pattricks Lane in Dovercourt has been a contentious issue since the 1970s.
In June Essex County Council agreed to spend more than £106,000 on the road under a Section 106 agreement. It was hoped Tendring’s Local Highways Panel would agree an additional funds for the work.
County Councillor for Harwich Ivan Henderson was incensed at the decision. He said: “The £106,000 will still be spent and the project will still go ahead. It just feels now that it is going to be of much lower quality."
An Essex Highways Liaison Officer said:“Residents in the area have funded other un-adopted roads to bring up to an adoptable standards and it was felt unfair that the panel use their budget to fund the adoption of Pattrick’s Lane."
