7:47pm Friday 11th October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
AN Easyjet flight was diverted to Stansted Airport earlier this afternoon after a security alert.
The flight was bound for Luton but was diverted after the alarm was raised just after 5pm today.
Planes are sent to the Essex airport when there are terrorist or hijack threats.
Essex Police carried out a series of security checks on board the plane before it was allowed to take off again.
A force spokesman said: "The force was initially alerted to a potential security threat, but cleared the incident at 7pm with the assistance of Border Force and allowed the aircraft to continue on to its original destination.
"No passengers were forced to disembark the aircraft."
