9:00am Thursday 17th October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
PARENTS of sick and premature babies who pass through Colchester’s Neonatal Unit are being given a free DVD and guidebook.
The Small Wonders project at the Colchester General Hospital unit is the initiative of child health charity, Best Beginnings.
The DVD and guidebook follow 14 families on their journey from birth, to first contact with their baby, to one year on.
Karen Moss, senior sister, said: “Having a premature or sick baby can be a very challenging and isolating experience.
“We are sure that the parents of any baby spending time on the Colchester unit will find Small Wonders extremely helpful.”
The first DVD of its kind, Best Beginnings worked closely with over 200 families and expert professionals to produce and pilot the films.
It has been endorsed by more than 20 organisations, including UNICEF, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the Royal College of Nursing and The Royal College of Midwives.
