Medical centre extends pilot
9:00am Saturday 19th October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
A PILOT scheme for a controversial new surgery appointment system has been extended.
Health bosses had originally planned to run the new remote arrangement at the Mayflower Medical Centre in Dovercourt until October.
They have now prolonged the trial period until December 31 for further evaluation.
The system works by patients calling the centre and giving their name and phone number to a receptionist who then gives an estimated time slot when the doctor will call them back.
The doctor then calls the patient back as close to the time as possible to discuss the best course of action and whether an appointment is required.
Practice manager at the Mayflower Medical Centre Lizzie Stovell said that the success of the scheme is being assessed, as was the plan all along.
“We are doing what we said we would: the doctors and the team here met on Friday and we have begun to review the data to the end of September.
“We have looked at our patient survey, which shows 65% approval of the new way of working so far."
