Restoration of fire-ravaged street could win award
6:00pm Monday 21st October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
HISTORICAL homes destroyed by a fire which have been restored to their former glory could be in line for a top award.
Five Georgian terraces in West Street, Harwich, suffered devastating damage when the blaze ripped through them in December 2011.
Now Rose Builders, which has been repairing some of the homes, have been asked to enter a prestigious award for their work.
The Georgian Group Architectural Awards has asked the building firm to enter their conservation awards.
Work on the Grade II listed homes finished a couple of weeks ago and some home owners have already moved back in.
Site manager Bob Brown said: “The whole process was to rebuild part of the street scene in Harwich. We have been able to put something back – we have put it back to how it should be."
