Flight path changes could affect Constable country
7:30am Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
AN area of outstanding natural beauty could see an increase in flights across its path under proposed airspace changes.
A consultation has been launched to assess the impact changes to London City and London Biggin Hill arrivals will have to north Essex.
The proposed flight path changes would see traffic for the two London airports cross the Dedham Valeand Suffolk Coast and Heath AONB areas, which include Manningtree.
There would be around an extra two flights per hour in the daytime. This could mean an additional 168 flights a week across the area which is already in the flight path for Stansted and Luton airports.
The consultation launched by NATS is part of a modernisation programme for the UK’s airspace structure, which is hoped will eventually lead to fewer CO2 emissions and less noise pollution for people living under flight paths.
