Home wait is halved after rule change
10:00am Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
COUNCIL house waiting lists have almost halved in the Tendring district after get tough measures were introduced earlier this year.
New rules brought in this April mean people must have lived in the district for three years before they can go on the waiting list.
The move was designed to stop people moving into the district jumping the queue of local residents waiting for a council house.
By June the waiting list had been slashed from 3,500 to 2,300. That figure has continued to fall and now stands at just 2,000.
The Government is now following Tendring's lead to make sure more local people are given priority.
