Centre’s merger would mean 20-mile trip for mums

PARENTS could face an extra twenty mile round trip if a children’s centre is closed.
Manningtree Children’s Centre, based at the Mistley Health Clinic, is one of 11 Sure Start centres under threat across the county.
Essex County Council wants to save £2.5 million. They launched a six week consultation into children centres last week.
The proposals would see the Manningtree Children’s Centre merge with the Windmill Children’s Centre ten miles away in Ramsey.
Tendring Rural West county councillor Carlo Guglielmi is to hold talks about extending the consultation process.
He said: “I feel the consultation should be extended to at least 12 weeks. Six weeks is just not long enough.
“The Mistley one is consulted to be merged with Ramsey which is about ten miles further down the road. There is very little public transport there from Ramsey to Manningtree."
