Emergency hotline praised for saving an elderly man's life
7:30am Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
AN ELDERLY man who was trapped after a double wardrobe fell on him is recovering at home.
The 91-year-old who lives in Oakley Road in Harwich used his Tendring Careline system to alert the Council control centre after the unit fell on his legs.
The ambulance service and his sister-in-law were both called and they summoned fire fighters to free the gentleman.
The Council’s member for housing, benefits, revenues and sports facilities Paul Honeywood was pleased that the man’s injuries were not too serious.
“It must have been a horrific incident for him, especially considering his age,” he said.
“Fortunately because he was linked up to Careline they were able to get him help very quickly and he was freed and taken to hospital.
“Had it not been the case he may not have been discovered for some time, even days.”
