Teachers postpone planned strike action
10:00am Thursday 31st October 2013 in Harwich and Manningtree News
TEACHERS have postponed a planned national strike, which was set for next month, after government ministers agreed to discuss their concerns.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the NASUWT threatened to stage a one-day national walk out as part of a continuing row over pay, pensions and working conditions.
The first strike, which took place in October, forced schools across north Essex to close.
Jerry Glazier, general secretary of the Essex branch of NUT, said: “The secretary of state is saying he is willing to talk.
“We are willing to give a reasonable amount of time. We will see if the secretary of state is committed.
“If he isn’t then we will be back reluctantly to industrial action.
“We want to resolve it but we need to work with the secretary of state.”
