Cashpot of £165million up for grabs
10:00am Wednesday 21st May 2014 in Harwich and Manningtree News
BUSINESSES in Tendring will be in for a share of £165million pot of European funding, it has been revealed.
Harwich, Manningtree and Clacton are hoping for a jobs boost after being named by the Government as a special employment area earlier this month.
The Area Assisted Status, which must now be rubbed-stamped by the European Commission, is aimed at tackling high unemployment by providing funding for work schemes and giving tax breaks to businesses.
The final details of exactly what it means to secure the status will not become clear until later this summer.
But Tendring Council chief executive Ian Davidson said there was likely to be a pot of European funding of around £165 million for areas in the South East Local Enterprise Partnership to tap into if they can come up with the right schemes.
The map for assisted area status also incorporates St Osyth, Weeley, Tendring village, Little Bentley, Mistley, and Little Oakley.
