SELFLESS school children have raised hundreds of pounds for Leukaemia research after a classmate’s mum was diagnosed with the disease.

For the past three years the Year 4 class at Lawford C of E Primary School have been raising money for Send a Cow, a charity which helps African families who are in poverty.

But this year after Julie Hanton, whose daughter Libby is in Year 4, was diagnosed with the disease the children decided to extend their fundraising.

Julie was diagnosed with leukaemia six months ago but after gruelling treatment and stem cells donated by her sister, who happened to be a match, she had won her battle against the disease.

The children managed to raise £500 for Leukaemia Research with the help of other students at the school and parents.

Teaching assistant Michelle Woods said: “I am incredibly proud of the Year 4 class and would like to thank everybody for the support we have had."
