A NOTORIOUS eyesore building could be torn down within weeks.
Tendring Council has received notice the AEW Delfords building, in Main Road, Dovercourt, which has been blighted by arson attacks and fallen into disrepair, could be demolished by its owners by the end of the month.
Harwich town councillor Jo Henderson said she was delighted and hopeful the building would soon be flattened and the area put to better use.
“I have been pushing for action for a number of years and it looks like it will finally happen,” she said.
“If it goes ahead, it will be fantastic news for the neighbours who have had to put up with vandals and fires being started.
“It has already been a long, hard slog but, hopefully, this will be the start of the process to take down that horrendous building.
“It is a huge relief and residents have to deal with so many issues.
“Overall I am really relieved something is being done about at least one of the derelict buildings in the ward.”
The factory building became disused in April 2008 and has seen at least four fires since, including a blaze which forced 30 firefighters to attend in June 2009.
