A CORNER shop could be turned into a cafeteria.
Wick Lane Stores in Dovercourt closed after it became “unsustainable” to run.
Now the shop’s owners have applied to change the use and turn the shop into a restaurant or cafeteria.
The application said two jobs were lost when the shop closed but the new proposal would allow for the jobs to be reinstated.
It said: “Sales from the shop have over recent years dropped to a level where continued use of the premises as a shop is unsustainable.
“This is in line with the national trend where shoppers are more likely to shop at local supermarkets or have produce delivered to them.
“Another factor is the loss of lunchtime sales to Harwich School Pupils who are no longer permitted to leave school premises at that time.”
Tendring Council will have the final say on the plans.
