SMASHED windows on an eyesore building will be boarded up at a cost of £20,000 to stop vandals targeting the derelict site.

Tendring Council has announced the plans for Parkeston House, in Adelaide Street, Parkeston, after being granted access to the empty building by Colchester magistrates.

A safety report is now being carried out looking at the state of the site.

The former office block was being converted into flats, but the work stopped after safety concerns.

Carlo Guglielmi, Tendring Council’s planning boss, said: “We really do understand the frustration of people who live close to this site and we are doing what we can, within our powers, to improve the appearance of the building and prevent rubbish being dumped and the property vandalised.”
