HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Harwich to watch the town’s annual Guy Carnival.

The unique annual event saw satirical floats and participants in ghostly costumes parade from Dovercourt to West Street, in Harwich, on Saturday.

The parade was started with youngsters walking with flaming torches and the floats and walkers followed, including a range of paper maiche big-heads.

This year entries poked fun at the street light switch off, with slogans including ‘Watt no street lights?’ and ‘Welcome to Historic Harwich – the dark ages’.

Other entries commented on the £100,000 of Section 106 money spent in Clacton, the town’s Maternity units, policing and hand grenades found on Dovercourt beach.
