A KIND-HEARTED man is raising money for a 90- year-old woman who had an RAF service card and £1,000 in cash stolen while out shopping.
Wayne Linge, of Lawford Place, was shocked when he heard how a woman had her handbag snatched from a public toilet in Rosemary Road, Clacton.
The theft, at noon on October 27, has been branded as “despicable” by veterans as the bag held an RAF card, which belonged to a Clacton war veteran.
Now despite, never meeting the woman, Mr Linge has set up a fund to try to reimburse her for the money she lost.
“As soon as I read it, something about the story struck a real chord with me,” he said.
“For something like that to happen, especially so close to Remembrance Day, must have been awful for her and I felt like I just had to do something.
Mr Linge is liaising with police officers who dealt with the incident to ensure the money raised will get to the victim.
More than £300 has already been raised. To donate, go to http://www.gofundme.com/glg204
