THOUSANDS of people lined to streets ten years ago today as the Queen visited Harwich to mark the Charter 400 celebrations.
Crowds cheered as the Queen and Prince Philip greeted well wishers and toured the town.
Wearing a wine red suit with gold brooch and black and red feathered hat, her majesty, attended a reception at the Guildhall before walking along the quayside.
She then toured the Mayflower exhibition at the Ha’penny Pier.
Pam Morrison, who was mayoress in 2004, described the Queen and Duke as personable and a delight to be with.
She said: “She was a very amusing lady, a very warm lady and put us at ease.”
