LAND earmarked for two Tesco superstores is set to be put up for sale.
The planned superstores in Station Road in Manningtree and on the Martello Caravan Park in Walton, were two of 49 developments around the country axed by Tesco due to financial constraints.
Senior officers at the council held a teleconference with Tesco to find out their intentions.
Carlo Guglielmi, cabinet member for planning, said: “We need to work with them to come up with planning statements to guide potential buyers in order that this all moves forward as quickly as possible.
“It is in everyone’s interests that we do so and to come up with the best suitable use of these sites.”
Mr Guglielmi said ideally the council would like to see retail opportunities brought forward but nothing should be ruled in or out at this stage.
“It is all about progressing development in a way that will benefit both communities,” he said.
“I have asked officers to bring forward a report on the potential development opportunities available for both sites.”
