TOWN Hall bosses have backed residents in their fight to have streetlights switched back on across the Tendring district.
Many residents were left angry after Essex County Council introduced a new cash-saving scheme last year that has seen streetlights turned off between midnight and 5am.
A consultation was launched by Tendring Council after opposition Labour councillors put forward a proposal for the district to spend £147,000 on having the lights switched back on.
Council leader Mick Page backed plans for the lights to be switched back on at a meeting of the council’s cabinet last Friday.
“We went out to consultation and the majority of people have told us they want the lights back on,” he said.
