VILLAGE roads plagued with speeding drivers could be set for a new mobile sign.
Lawford Parish Council has chosen four roads in the village where the vehicle-activated speed warning sign could be used. It is hoped Essex County Council will agree the locations, on nine separate lampposts, so the parish can buy a special portable sign in a bid to cut speed and reduce crashes.
In a report to Lawford Parish Council on Monday, chairman Alan Coley put forward Wignall Street, Cox’s Hill, Long Road and Station Road.
He said Wignall Street had extremely narrow pavements in places and numerous complaints had been made by residents about speed.
“Long Road is a straight road inviting excessive speed – there is widespread disregard for the limit,” he added.
“In Station Road, the speed limit is consistently ignored.”
Mr Coley said he hoped Essex County Council would “rubber-stamp” the plan.
