MAJOR renovation work to a village cricket club pavilion has been completed.

Mistley Cricket Club’s pavilion has been given a new roof and a small extension built for the bar and kitchen area.

In 2011, the clubhouse was expanded to accommodate the increasing number of women and children using the club.

An extension saw shower facilities, a kitchen, umpire rooms and ladies’ toilets built.

But there was not enough money to refurbish the rest of the site and replace the tin roof on the existing building, which leaked badly.

Now the club has finished the improvement works to the roof.

The project, costing more than £70,000, was brought about with grants from Mistley Maltings Trust, Essex Environment Trust, Tendring Council’s Big Society and Essex County Council’s Community Initiative Fund.

Martin Favell, chairman of the club’s trustees, said: “We are absolutely delighted and very pleased with it.”
