THE leaders of a project to redesign a controversial blue roundabout in Dovercourt are asking designers to come forward with proposals for its new look.

The bright blue roundabout, in Freshfields Road, is one of the first things tourists see after they get off ferries at Harwich International Port.

It was originally created with a cover made of small pieces of blue glass designed, with strategically planted trees, to look like the European flag.

Last year, the Tendring Local Highways Panel agreed to spend £30,000 on examining how to make the entrance to the historic town more attractive.

An advert has now gone out calling for a “creative consultant” to come forward with a design brief for the roundabouts.

County councillor for Harwich, Ivan Henderson, said: “It is part of the long-term strategy looking at the experience of the approach to Harwich.”
