A FOOTBALL club was transformed into the home of fundraising as it made more than £1,500 for three charities.

Donkey rides, craft stalls and an inflatable zone were just some of the attractions on the go at Harwich and Parkeston Football Club.

Visitors were also treated to a packed line-up of performances from majorettes, dancers, ukulele players and kickboxers.

Sunday’s event was in aid of the football club, the Essex Air Ambulance and Colchester General Hospital’s Cancer Centre Campaign to provide facilities worth £4.5million.

Organisers have also been holding weekly car boot sales at the venue throughout the summer to raise cash.

Bev Heard, Essex Air Ambulance fundraising volunteer, said: “We are very pleased, everybody has been having a lovely time and there has been a lovely atmosphere.

“We think we had between 600 and 800 people through the door and raised £1,560.50 and we are very happy with that.

“Last year, when we ran the event, we took about £1,000, so to get more than £500 extra is great.

“When you raise that sort of money for a one-day event, it makes all the hard work worth it.”

Mrs Heard especially wanted to thank football club chairman Tony Armstrong for allowing the venue to be used for free.

The final carboot sale of the season will be held on Sunday at the football club, with sellers invited to set up at 11am and buyers allowed in from noon.
