A MUSIC video about Harwich, which is set to be featured in a musical, has attracted thousands of views on YouTube .

Holiday in Harwich was recorded aboard the LV18 and shows one of the stars of upcoming musical Guardian Angels belting out a song about things to see and do in the town.

Harwich is affectionately described by actress Isabella Roy as the “beating heart of Tendring”.

The song is woven into the story of the musical, and writer Chris Brindle said the over-the-top nature of the video was exactly the tone they were going for.

He said: “I decided to do this story about a number of musical theatre actresses looking for work.

“They come to the end of the pier show in Harwich to perfor m the song, which is written in all seriousness, but which the girls get tragically wrong.

“They are cut from the audition, and are stranded in Harwich for the night.

“They go to The Alma Inn, where they hear Fern Teather singing and persuade her to help them write their own musical.”

He added: “I wanted to write a song which could be taken two ways.

“It could be taken perfectly seriously, almost a travel log of Tendring – but it’s also a song which can be hammed up by the girls so they get cut from the audition.

“For the actual video, I set out to film a real log of all the places in Harwich.

“We were on board the LV18, a wonderful privilege which gave us a view over the harbour.

“Harwich has so much history.

"My wife and I live in Colchester and we love going to the Electric Palace cinema.

“Of course, there is the Mayflower build taking place as well, which is interesting.”

The music video of Holiday in Harwich has had thousands of views over the past week alone.

The singing dubbed over the video is a combination of stars Isabella Roy, Corinne Willson and Lucy-Jane Quinlan.

They will appear on stage at New Wolsey Studio, Ipswich, to perform Guardian Angels, which runs from June 16 to June 19.
